Hot Tub Electrical Installation GFCI Hook Up

If you’ve recently purchased a hot tub, this requires a GFCI hook up in order to safely operate and enjoy your new spa. GFCI, or Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter, is a safety device that disconnects the power if a fault is detected. So, if any water were to come into contact with the device, it would disconnect the power completely so that everyone stays safe and is not at risk of electrocution.

Depending on the size of hot tub, the numbers of pumps, and equipment on the spa will determine the amount of amp on the GFCI. Most hot tubs are 50 amp, but some higher end spas require 60 amp GFCI or more. When you call Barker Heating & Cooling, one of our licensed electricians will visit your home to determine whether your current breaker box can handle the electrical load of your new hot tub. Once that’s determined, we will run a number 6 or number 8 wire out to the spa location and install the GFCI unit.
